Arsenal vs Charlton Athletic

Arsenal go into this match on the back of an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Sheffield United. The trip to Sheffield was one of their worst performances this season and they couldn’t create a single good chance in the match. The pitch there didn’t help them too much either but lets hope that’s no excuse for the poor show. There certainly won’t be this excuse when they play hosts to a rejuvenated Charlton team under the guidance of Alan Pardew. Pardew has now managed two matches and has 4 points to show for them. He will try and lift his team to get atleast a point from their trip to the Emirates stadium.

Injury concerns keep mounting for the likes of Newcastle and now Arsenal. The Gunners are now without Robin Van Persie and Julio Baptista for this match, both of whom played against Sheffield and picked up knocks during the game. Emmanuel Adebayor, Walcott and Ljunberg all three are almost out of contention due to injuries. Walcott may face a late fitness test to prove he is fit to return. Although the likes of Djouru and Gallas are a definite miss for this clash. There are reports that Thierry Henry might be fit for this match, but it will be interesting to see if Arsene Wenger straight away gets his Talisman striker to start upfront without too much match practice.

Charlton will be without their goal scoring machine, Darren Bent who is out with a knee injury he picked up at the weekend. Luke Young, Andy Reid and Faye could return to the line-up. The absence of Bent could well mean a return for Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink in the starting line-up. In the reverse fixture this season, Arsenal came back from a goal down to beat Charlton 2-1, while last year the Addicks were beaten 3-0 at home.

Could this be the Gunners first defeat at their new stadium? We’ll just have to wait and watch, they are not in great form and specially after losing to Sheffield there will be doubts in the players’ minds. An Asian Handicap bet on Charlton (+1.5) at 1.95 is a good bet. This should be a goal fest I belive and over 3 goals at 2.62 is a nice bet too.

  • It’s good to finally see Henry back from injury which is quite evident as Arsenal won 4-0 against an out-of-form Charlton. Nice to see him getting a goal, even if it’s from a penalty kick.
