This game features the number three seed in the Midwest Regional, the Oregon Ducks, against the number one seed in the Midwest Regional, the Florida Gators. In fact, Florida is the number one overall seed for the tournament.
Ever since Florida won the National Championship last year and everyone decided to come back, they have been waiting to get back to the Final Four with a chance to win it all again.
The Gators had a couple times this season when they were not very good. At the end of the season they lost three of four before beating Kentucky in the season finale. But Florida went on to win the SEC tournament.
Everything seemed fine for the Gators until they ran into Butler in the Sweet Sixteen. Butler was ready for Florida and the Bulldogs led by nine points before Florida found their game and pulled away late in the game.
Meanwhile, Oregon has been seemingly flying under everyone’s radar. They are the lowest seed left in the tournament but as a number three seed that’s not saying much. This is a very capable team that brings its “A” game every single time on the court.
It seems that Florida has been falling behind in every game this tournament before they turn it on and eventually roll over their opponent. But against Oregon, Florida better not make the mistake of spotting the Ducks a lead.
Oregon has a lot of speed and a lot of ability. Florida better not take them lightly.
But in the end it’s Florida that has to be the favorite to win this game and return to the Final Four.
If Oregon hopes to win, they’re going to need two things: good shooting from beyond the three point arc and solid play from their senior guard Aaron Brooks. If Brooks can play big and freshmen Tajuan Porter can hit threes like he did in the previous game, Oregon will make it tough on Florida.
Still Florida is loaded with experienced and talented players such as Al Horford, Joakim Noah, and Corey Brewer.
Florida has been waiting for this opportunity for nearly a year and it’s tough to imagine they are going to let it pass them by. They simply have too much talent and too much experience.
