Premiership Watford v Newcastle

This is the banker of the day, Newcastle are a team in turmoil, the manager has gone, there is talk of players leaving but it looks as though “Big Sam” is on his way.  Fancy Watford? Put your money on a Newcastle team who have been suffering of late, but they are all playing for their futures.  Michael Owen has much to prove to the Toon Army, Martins has quickly become a firm fans favourite, and they owe the Geordie faithful a decent finish to the season!

Watford on the other hand are already planning for next season with Boothroyd secured under a new contract and Mariappa also signing up for the future.  As with any team who suffer relegation, the big teams will be looking to pick off their best players, but so far there has been little sign of the big players leaving.

On loan Ben Foster plays his last game for Watford, before returning to what is sure to be a successful career with Manchester United.  Foster has been very impressive this season, with many highlighting him as the main star of the team.  Boothroyd welcomes back Clarke Carlise and Mariappa, although DeMerit and Bouazza are both injured.

Rudderless Newcastle will be without Scott Parker and Damien Duff, who have both undergone surgery this week – hoping to be fit for pre-season.  Other than that, Newcastle are at full strength and looking to finish off a poor season with one final bang!

Both teams have been struggling to score goals of late, with defensive frailties coming to the forefront – making for an open game.  The quality of the football may not be the best in the world, but there are still points and TV money to play for.  Expect Martins to click back into goal scoring mode, after a successful first season in the premiership – what odds Owen to finish the season will a goal?
