NEC Nijmegen vs Tottenham Hotspur preview

Game : NEC Nijmegen ( Ned) vs Tottenham Hotspur (Eng)

Competition : UEFA Cup Group D

Venue : De Goffert Stadium, Nijmegen, Netherlands

Date : Thursday, 27 November 2008

Kick off : 18.00 GMT

Buoyed after their 4-0 thrashing of Dinamo Zagreb on Matchday 2, Tottenham Hotspur travel to the Netherlands to take on NEC Nijmegen in a Group D UEFA Cup tie.

Spurs beat Blackburn Rovers 1-0 on Sunday to move out of the relegation zone. Aaron Lennon ran rings around Blackburn’s defence, and the young winger could start on Thursday. Harry Redknapp has some defensive worries though. Skipper Ledley King’s persistent knee problem keeps him out of this game. Paul Stalteri was not in the original roster submitted, and a scan on Alan Hutton’s foot has resulted in him not travelling with the team. Roman Pavlyuchenko and Vedran Corluka are cup tied, while Luka Modric is out with a groin injury.

NEC lost to Dinamo Zagreb 3-2 on Matchday 1, and a loss here could mean the end of their Cup aspirations. Mario Breen’s men drew 1-1 against Breda in the Eredivisie recently. Breen was part of the Feyenoord team that lost to Tottenham in a second round cup tie two and a half decades ago.

WDWDW

In five European games at De Goffert, NEC Nijmegen have only managed to secure one win. Going by Spurs’ recent form, I’ll expect them to take NEC out, even without their best defenders. Spurs 2-0 NEC, with goals from Bent and Campbell.

At 12Bet, 2-0 to Spurs are at odds of 8/1. Bent and Campbell to score are also quoted favourably.
