It’s Super Bowl week and the Steelers and the Cardinals are about to or have already arrived in Tampa for the big game. One player who’ll play a major role in the game is Cardinals’ quarterback Kurt Warner. With the exception of Pittsburgh Steelers fans, just about every other person will be rooting for Warner. That certainly includes me.
I have to say that I haven’t always been a Kurt Warner fan. In fact, I disliked him when he played for the Rams. Honestly, that offense was too good and I didn’t like that. I’ve never liked the glove her wears while he plays. And, back when he was ripping apart opposing defenses, I didn’t like all the cut-away shots of Warner’s wife – who (to be brutally honest) looked a little creepy with that 80s Scott Baio spiked hair cut. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a good looking lady and I’m sure she’s a sweetheart, but she was creepy looking.
But now I like Warner. He is a tough guy. He’s a stand-up guy. More importantly, he’s winner. If he can lead the Cardinals to victory next weekend he’ll be a Hall of Famer. No doubt about it.
What a challenge Warner is going to face on Sunday. He’ll be going against the #1 defense in the league. He’ll be taking on one of the best defenses in the past few years. And he’ll be taking on a defense that borders on playing dirty some of the time.
Not only do I wonder if Warner will win the game, I wonder if he’ll even make it through the game. Because you know the Steelers are going to make it job 1 to blitz Warner and get as many hits on him as they can possibly manage. Warner’s lack of mobility won’t help him either.
But I’ll be pulling for Kurt, as will most of America. Win or lose, let’s just hope he makes it through the game and plays well.
