After watching the United States upset mighty Spain, South Africa will be hoping to do something similar when they face defending champions Brazil in the second semifinal of the Confederations Cup in Johannesburg.

South Africa started off their campaign with a draw against Iraq, then managed to beat New Zealand before losing to Spain in their final league game. Bernard Parker, the man who has scored all of South Africa’s goals in this tournament, will have a late fitness test prior to the game. Because Brazil are so good going forward, South Africa’s best hope is to attack well on the counter, and grab a goal. For this they’ll need all their best attacking players, and Parker is certainly one of their best.

Macbeth Sibaya is suspended for the hosts.

South Africa form- last five games- all competitions- South Africa scorers in brackets

Spain 2-0 South Africa
New Zealand 0-2 South Africa ( Bernard Parker*2)
South Africa 0-0 Iraq
South Africa 1-0 Poland ( Terror Fanteni)
Portugal 2-0 South Africa

Brazil are now strong favourites to defend their title after the exit of European champions Spain. This is a big game for coach Dunga as he is up against Joel Santana, the man who once managed Dunga as a player at Vasco Da Gama.

The Selecao cruised their group games after an initial hiccup against Egypt, and produced a breath taking display of counter attacking football to show world champiions Italy the door in their last Group B match.

Defender Juan has been ruled out of the tournament with an injury. Luisao should take his place. Brazilian rightback Maicon can cause problems for South Africa down the flanks, and if Bafana can cut him off, their chances of getting something from the game will be boosted.

Brazil should win this if they play the way they played against Italy. 2-0 to Brazil with Luis Fabiano and Lucio (captain) to score.
