MLB: Up and Down Teams

This long baseball season is filled with highs and lows for every team. The key for successful teams is to make sure they have more highs than lows. And successful teams also want to make sure that their highs are higher than their lows are low.

Right now we’re in the middle of seeing a few teams that riding a wave of success while a few other teams are definitely low.

Right now the Boston Red Sox are rolling and they’ve opened up a 5 game lead in the American League East. In contrast, the New York Yankees are at a low. However, they did win last night and they won with hitting. So, maybe they can turn things back around and charge after the Red Sox. The Yanks better start winning soon or else they’ll find themselves in a bad spot when the All Star Break rolls around.

Perhaps the hottest team in Majors is the Detrot Tigers. They’ve now won 7 straight games. They have a 5 game lead over the Minnesota Twins. They’ve also started to hit the ball. If they continue to hit, and continue to pitch the way they have all season, they will run away with the AL Central.

The Philadelphia Phillies are certainly struggling right now. They’ve lost 8 of their last 10 games. Yet, they still sit atop the division because the 2nd place New York Mets haven’t been much better. But the Mets are just a game back now. And the Florida Marlins have actually crept to within 2 games.

Another team that is struggling right now is the Chicago Cubs. They just got swept out of Detroit. Luckily there aren’t really any teams in the NL Central who look like they want to step up and play good baseball. But as I’ve written several times, this division will go down to the wire and 3 or 4 teams will probably bet around the top of the division just about all season long.
