Iraq – last few games – most recent game on top
v. UAE (Win 1-0) Abbas OG
v. Iran (Loss 1-2) Mahmoud
v. China (Loss 2-3) Mahmoud*2
The Iraqis bombarded the UAE goal throughout the 90 minutes without much joy. They stuck the woodwork about four times in the game. Finally, in injury time, they got their reward as Abbas deflected Younis Mahmoud’s shot into the goal to hand Iraq their first win of the tournament. Wolfgang Sidka would demand better finishing from his forwards Younis Mahmoud and Emad Mohammed. Nashat Akram and Hawar Mulla have created a lot of chances from midfield. Samer Saeed and Ibrahim Khalif are one booking away from a suspension.
North Korea – last few games – most recent game on top
v. Iran (Loss 0-1)
v. UAE (Draw 0-0)
v. Bahrain (Win 1-0) Chol-Hyok An
North Korea’s defensive tactics has resulted in no joy so far in the tournament. They are yet to score a goal and find themselves rooted to the bottom of the group. They can still qualify though, if they defeat Iraq and Iran do not lose against the UAE. Centre midfielder Park Nam Chol is suspended after picking up two yellows. Captain Hong Yong-Jo and star striker Jong Tae-Se are under huge pressure to get the goals for their side.
Match Verdict: Iraq 3-1 North Korea (Mahmoud,Emad,Mulla / Jong Tae-Se)
