Japan – last few games – most recent game on top
v. Saudi (Win 5-0) Maeda*2, Okazaki*3
v. Syria (Win 2-1) Honda, Hasebe
v. Jordan (Draw 1-1) Yoshida
v. South Korea (Draw 0-0)
One can foresee some changes to the Japan side that took the field against Saudi. Goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima who missed the Saudi game under disciplinarian grounds will replace Nishikawa in goal. Keisuke Honda and Daisuke Matsui have injury problems and may have to face a late fitness test. If fit, Honda looks set to replace Kashiwagi in midfield. Zaccheroni is unlikely to tinker with the front three of Okazaki, Maeda and Kagawa. Defender Atsuto Uchida is suspended after collected two yellow cards.
Qatar – last few games – most recent game on top
v. Kuwait (Win 3-0) Bilal, Al Sayed, Fabio Cesar
v. China (Win 2-0) Yusef Ahmed*2
v. Uzbekistan (Loss 0-2)
After their disappointing performance in the opening game, Bruno Metsu made a string of changes to the Qatar side. The players who came in have made an impact. Yusef Ahmed has been the star for Qatar over the last two games. He has formed a healthy partnership with Sebastien Soria, who surprisingly hasn’t scored so far in the tournament. Qatar will miss the services of Mohammed Kasola who is suspended. His long throws have been a highlight of Qatar’s play.
Match Verdict: Japan 2-1 Qatar (Kagawa,Okazaki / Soria)
