Uzbekistan qualified out of a fairly tough group that also contained hosts Qatar, China and Gulf Cup champions Kuwait. Their standout player in the group stages was skipper Server Djeparov, who netted against both Qatar and Kuwait. Djeparov, a former AFC Player of the Year, has shown great vision in the centre of midfield for Uzbekistan and will be a key player for the White Wolves when they take on Jordan.

Jordan, who are making only their second ever appearance in the Asian Cup, have matched their performance at the 2004 edition of the tournament by reaching the last eight of the tournament. Adnan Hamad’s men have played quite well with impressive performances against both Japan and Saudi Arabia in the group stages. They did struggle in the first half of their final group game against Syria, but rode on their luck to claim a 2-1 victory.
There are a few headaches for Hamad going into this tie. Striker Al-Saify, scorer of the winner against Syria, is injured. Hatem Aqel and Anas Bani Yaseen are also on the sidelines while Basem Fathi is suspended.
