Iran – last few games – most recent game on top
v. UAE (Win 3-0) Afshin, Nouri, Abbas OG
v. North Korea (Win 1-0) Ansarifard
v. Iraq (Win 2-1) Rezaei, Mobali
Manager Afshin Ghotbi has tried out a whole lot of players for Iran, and has won with whatever combination he has put onto the field. It’ll be difficult to predict who the coach would pick in the first eleven. Mohammed Gholami, Masoud Shojaei, Gholamreza Rezaei, Karim Ansarifard, Mohammed Khalatbari are all in contention for the three attacking positions. Arash Afshin is not available, thanks to his red card in their last game. Nekounam, Temouriyan and Mobali should play as the middle three in what is Iran’s biggest game of the tournament so far.
South Korea – last few games – most recent game on top
v. India (Win 4-1) Ji Dong-Won*2, Koo Ja-Cheol, Son Heung-Min
v. Australia (Draw 1-1) Koo Ja-Cheol
v. Bahrain (Win 2-1) Koo Ja-Cheol*2
South Korea will continue to play their compact, one-touch, slide-rule passing game. Their attacking quartet of Dong-Won, Ja-Cheol, Chung-Yong and Ji-Sung has been very impressive in all three games so far. Jung-Soo and Tae-Hwi will play as the two centre-halves with Du-Ri and Young-Pyo overlapping the midfielders at every possible opportunity.
Match Verdict: Iran 0-2 South Korea (Ja-Cheol, Ji-Sung)
