Playing under familiar conditions, you would back Sri Lanka to see off Zimbabwe 99 times on 100. With their last game rained off, Sri Lanka find themselves in a slightly precarious position. They need a win in Kandy to avoid making their last League game as a ‘must-win’ encounter. Do you fancy Sri Lanka to breeze past Zimbabwe or are you pining for an upset? Bet365 and 188Bet are offering competitive odds for this tie. Read our preview and make an educated bet on the match!
Sri Lanka results – last few games – most recent games on top
v. Australia (Match Abandoned) Sangakkara 73*
v. Kenya (Won by 9 wickets) Tharanga 67*, Malinga 6-38
v. Pakistan (Lost by 11 runs) C Silva 57, Herath 2-46
v. Canada (Won by 210 runs) Jayawardena 100, Kulasekara 3-16
Sri Lanka went in with just one pacer against Australia. The Kandy wicket is expected to be a slow-turner as well, and Sangakkara may again go in with three spinners to support Malinga. Murali, Herath and Mendis would be dangerous on the slow wicket of Kandy and Zimbabwe would do well to neutralize their threat. Angelo Matthews would have to assume more responsibility with the ball, in the absence of a second seamer. Tilakratne Dilshan has failed to fire in the last few games – Sri Lanka needs him to get back to form as we head into the business end of the tournament.
Zimbabwe results – last few games – most recent games on top
v. New Zealand (Lost by 10 wickets) Taylor 44
v. Canada (Won by 175 runs) Taibu 98, Price 3-16
v. Australia (Lost by 91 runs) Cremer 37, Mpofu 2-58
v. Ireland (Lost by 4 wickets) Chigumbura 103, Price 2-37
Zimbabwe will be without left-handed batsman Sean Williams, who fractured his thumb in the nets on the eve of the New Zealand game. Vusi Sibanda is his replacement in the fifteen member squad and he might be blooded in against Sri Lanka. The inclusion of Sibanda over Hamilton Masakadza is a bit of a surprise. Terry Duffin and Shingirai Masakadza have not featured for Zimbabwe so far, and both players might get a chance to play in Kandy.
Match Verdict: Sri Lanka is expected to be too powerful for the Africans.
