ICC Cricket World Cup 2011- Quarter final

25th March, 2011- Sher e Bangla Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka

Group B winners South Africa will look to power their way into the semifinals of the 2011 World Cup when they face New Zealand in Dhaka on Friday. Bet on New Zealand vs South Africa at PaddyPower after reading our betting preview at Sportsbookie.com.

South Africa were the only team to bowl out all their opponents in the group stages. The Proteas rested some of their regulars in the final group game against Bangladesh and crushed the cohosts thanks to an excellent performance with the ball from Robin Peterson and Lonwabo Tsotsobe. Despite his MoM performance against the Bangladeshis, Tsotsobe is unlikely to feature against the Kiwis as Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel are expected to return to the starting XI.

Also, the pitch at the Sher E Bangla stadium seems to favour spin, meaning that South Africa will almost certainly start with Imran Tahir and Robin Peterson against the Kiwis and possibly even Johan Botha, leaving Tsotsobe without a spot in the squad. New Zealand also struggled to cope with wily Muttiah Muralitharan in their group game against the Sri Lankans, and Smith will feel that spin will be the way to test the Black Caps.

AB De Villiers should also return to the squad, with a possible tossup taking place between Morne Van Wyk and Johan Botha. Van Wyk has not exactly set the stage on fire and New Zealand’s spin vulnerabilities could be exposed more by Botha, who will bowling in tandem with Peterson and Tahir.

Daniel Vettori could return to the Black Caps set up after missing their last few games through injury. Kyle Mills is also expected to return after sitting out the SL game with a thigh strain.

Verdict:- New Zealand have not played at Dhaka in this tournament and were whitewashed by Bangladesh when they last visited the country. South Africa on the other hand are in a rich vein of form and should make it to the semis with relative ease if they play to their potential.
