Portugal vs Norway

June 4, 2011- Euro 2012 qualifier

A crucial European qualifying fixture sees Group H leaders Norway take on Portugal in Lisbon. Bet on Portugal vs Norway with Bodog after reading our betting preview at Sportsbookie.com.

With four games gone, Portugal are second in the group with seven points. Third placed Denmark also have seven while Norway, the leaders, have ten. The Portuguese lost 1-0 to the Norwegians when the two sides met in Oslo in September, a result that has allowed the Norwegians to move into the driver’s seat for qualification.

Norwegian coach Egil Olsen has admitted that Portugal are the best team in the world currently and it would be hard to disagree with that fact given the recent 4-0 thrashing the Portuguese dished out to world champions Spain. Portugal will also be bolstered by the return of captain Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo missed their last two qualifiers due to injury but comes into this game on the back of a splendid season in La Liga that has seen him break all scoring records in the league.

Portugal form- last five games- most recent first- Portugal scorers in brackets

Portugal 2-0 Finland ( Ruben*2)
Portugal 1-1 Chile ( Varela)
Argentina 2-1 Portugal ( Ronaldo)
Portugal 4-0 Spain ( Carlos Martins, Almeida, Helder Postiga*2)
Iceland 1-3 Portugal ( Ronaldo, Raul Meireles, Helder Postiga)

Norway will be quite content with any result from this game, so long as it is not a loss. Coach Olsen has said that the pressure will be on the Portuguese and his side will be quite happy with a point. A loss will tighten up things in Group H, while avoiding defeat will allow the Scandinavians to keep their noses ahead of the Portuguese and neighbours Denmark.
