England’s Jimmy Anderson and Jonathan Trott are officially the second best at their respective disciplines in the test arena after Anderson leapfrogged team-mate Graeme Swann to become the second best bowler in the world while Trott dislodged Sachin Tendulkar to move behind South African Jacques Kallis in the batting table – something those who get free bets would have been unable to predict at the start of the year.
Anderson was instrumental in England’s 196 victory over India in the first test at Lord’s on Monday, taking 5-65 to put his side one up in the four match test series, while Trott’s 70 in the first innings helped England post a competitive 474-8 declared.
Kevin Pietersen, who made 202 not out at Lord’s in the first innings, also moved up the rankings table, working his way back into the top twenty after a poor run of form.
England captain Andrew Strauss praised Pietersen’s effort in the first test after the South African born batsman came in for criticism after a run of low scores, before registering an uncharacteristically obdurate double century.
“That first innings total was a magnificent performance and Kevin was mainly responsible for that,” Strauss said.
“That was one of the great innings I’ve seen since being involved [with cricket], in very difficult circumstances.”
“He had to be smart in the way he played their seamers, he had to graft and then when we had the opportunity to attack, he attacked. Jonathan Trott also showed great temperament and technique to get to 70.” He added.
Other members of the England test side also made moves up the rankings table, with Matt Prior, who got his name on the Lord’s honour board for the second time with his quick-fire century in England’s second innings, moving up ten places to 21st.
Stuart Broad rounded off an excellent week in the office as he claimed joint 11th place with Harbhajan Singh thanks to his seven match wickets and unbeaten 74 in England’s second innings.
Those who bet with paypal have backed England to claim top spot in the test team rankings after Andrew Strauss’s men claimed victory in the first test. England must win the four test series by two clear victories in order to become the number one test team in the world, and you can get free bets on England emerging victorious in the second test at Trent Bridge, which gets underway on Thursday.
