Which 2 Teams Will Qualify to the Knockout Phase in Group C?

Group C is relatively similar to Group B in terms of standard. Group C contains the following 4 teams: Switzerland outfit Basel, English giants Manchester United, Portuguese team Benfica, and Romanian squad Otelul Galati.

The best team in this particular the group, and the bookie’s favourite is Manchester United for obvious reasons. They are by far the better quality team and are sure to run away with the group come the end of the Champions League group stages. In the past the Red Devils have won the prestigious European Cup trophy a total of 3 times, most recently in the 2007/08 season. Those placing a Champions League bet can’t rule them out.

Their last Champions League final came last year as Spanish giants, and current Champions League titleholders Barcelona, coasted to victory as they beat United 3-1 at the Wembley Stadium. United’s first game in the current Champions League saw the Red Devils come up against the second best team in the group Benfica. The result ended in a 1-1 draw, and the first goal scored was from the Portuguese side; with their key man Oscar Cardozo scoring in the 24th minute. The second goal scored was from Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs. The Champions League promotions suggest there is more to come.

Overall the match was an exciting affair, although the Red Devils weren’t at their best as for most of the match it was in fact Benfica that piled on the pressure. The English club should put this result behind them and focus on the match in hand. As I mentioned earlier, Benfica are the second strongest team in Group C. They’re a good side, and with players like Cardozo they are sure to cause trouble for any up and coming oppositions, particularly so during the group stages. The team that will finish 3rd will be Switzerland’s Basel, and finishing in 4th position will be the Romanian side Otelul Galati.
