VDV – Dutch focused on Euro glory

Rafael van der Vaart has made it clear Holland will be one of the favourites to win this summer’s European Championships, backing the talented Dutch squad to finally realise the potential that has been evident for years.
The Spurs schemer is sure to be a key component of head coach Bert van Marwijk’s plans in Poland and Ukraine this summer, where the Dutch will be looking to go one further than their second place finish at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, losing to Spain in the final.
The Spanish, who will defend their title this summer, are once again the favourites with Betfair. However, there is a strong case to say that Holland could be better placed to win. For all Spain’s talent, the Dutch wouldn’t give up their quartet of Van der Vaart, Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie for many others in European football.
If all four can produce anything like their best football at the same time this summer then Holland are going to be one of the most dangerous sides in the tournament, and one which is very capable of triumphing.
Van der Vaart believes the Dutch squad has matured since their World Cup Final defeat in 2010, standing them in good stead for this summer’s European Championships. The Spurs star hailed the job Van Marwijk had done since taking charge after the 2008 championships.
“Holland are among the favourites for the next Euros.”
“We are better than we were two years ago and in 2008, when we thought we were champions after beating France and Italy,” added van der Vaart.
“Things have changed. Coach Van Marwijk  has done a brilliant job, focusing our minds and concentration levels.
“Now we are focused on just one thing – victory.”
